Facilities
The club has been established since
the 1960s at Kingsfield. The airfield has a tarmaced runway, fully
maintained by the MOD. It is situated on on a flat arable
farm lands, at the west end of the strip there is a small ridge for
soaring when the conditions are correct. With excellent soaring all year
round we are able to use sea breeze fronts generated by Larnaca bay in the
morning as well as returning land breezes in the late afternoon.
We now have a new
club house, (we moved out of our old one some time ago) we have a
bar with all the usual delightful Cyprus brews and not forgetting
Avo's world famous "Flaming Panties". We even have a range
of
none alcoholic drinks (but no-one seems to buy them). We have a
patio area where we can Barbeque and relax under the stars. We
are close to Cessacs at Dhekalia so if you wish to go swimming or
find a shop its only 2 minutes.
Two Hangers are
provided for aircraft storage and maintenance, toilets are adjacent
to the hangers.
Three winches are
available for our use with a long wheel base land rover for cable retrieval,
our runway control vehicle is an old military coach with seats and
tea making facilities.
Accommodation for
members is currently being negotiated for people travelling from
Akrotiri.
Ground schooling and
flight planning facilities are available in the club house.
