I was most interested to read the Akrotiri website particularly as I served there on my first tour Aug 63 to Aug 66 on 249 Sqn flying Canberras. If I may be so bold I think you will find that the Officers’ Mess burned down in Dec 1962 rather than 1960 as mentioned in the history section. A certain RAF Regiment Officer Mark Hobden rushed into the burning building and rescued the Mess Bills from the Office. When I arrived in Aug 63 the temporary Officers’ Mess was the Air Movements building near SAHQ (or SHQ as it was known in those days). As you can imagine he was not the most popular person for this ‘heroic’ act!
